We are often asked by customers, who, for various reasons do not/can not use their actual computer system to install and manage their ArGest® Backup software and hardware to recommend a good system for a tight budget.
The most often stated reason is that they have older Apple or Windows systems that are in use that cannot be upgraded/tasked further but they do not want to replace those systems.
In cases where the dedicated bruAPP™ Backup Appliance is not an appropriate fit, here is an example of a type of system that we would recommend for you to investigate.
THIS IS A GUIDELINE RECOMMENDATION ONLY AND THE CUSTOMER SHOULD DO THEIR OWN RESEARCH TO DETERMINE FITNESS FOR YOUR PARTICULAR TASK. ALWAYS CHECK WITH TOLIS GROUP ABOUT ARGEST® COMPATIBILITY WITH WHAT YOU HAVE SELECTED/ARE INVESTIGATING.
An example of a system to look at would be:
Intel NUC NUC8i7BEH Mini PC/HTPC
• 8th Generation Intel Quad-Core i7-8559U 2.7GHz
• With Turbo Boost Upto 4.5GHz,
• 4MB Cache
• 32GB DDR4, 2TB NVMe SSD

TOLIS GROUP IS NOT A AFFILIATE/SALES PARTNER OF INTEL OR AMAZON. THIS RECOMMENDATION IS BEING PROVIDED
AS A COURTESY TO GET YOU STARTED ON YOUR SEARCH FOR AN APPROPRIATE SYSTEM.
To turn this system into an ArGest® host, install CentOS Linux in place of the Windows OS that may ship with the NUC system by default. Cent OS is GUI-based for easier use and is incredibly stable for the archiving/backup/restore tasks.
This machine with CentOS Linux will run your ArGest® BRU Server software, your selected LTO device/disk storage (connected via Thunderbolt), DAM/MAM options if desired, allow you to push your data to your existing cloud account, and all that keeps your existing machines free to do their tasks and not be bogged down with backup/archival/restore tasks.
Your other systems will all be clients of the ArGest® BRU Server™ machine.
